I just looked "webform_postbackoptions is undefined" up in Google, and got tons of hits. Most of them were to do with Http compression breaking client-side validation in ASP.NET for some reason. One example is here: http://blogs.x2line.com/al/archive/2005/12/03/1351.aspx

If you are not using a compression HttpHandler, then the problem may still be HrefExchanger (although there are other users using it with DNN 4, and this problem has not been reported - and it doesn't happen in our test instance). If you check Google with your error message & don't find anything useful, and are not running any Http compression, let me know and I will investigate further.

Same problem here.  WebCompression is not enabled either.

Have you configured DNN to allow non-admins to add pages? Normally HrefExchanger does nothing when you are logged in as host or an admin user.

More news on this... From what I can tell, it does not appear to be a HrefExchanger problem, users are reporting it with a fresh install of DNN 4. http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/forumid/108/threadid/15880/threadpage/0/scope/posts/Default.aspx. A workaround is posted here, too.

There's also a good post here: http://www.issociate.de/board/post/286187/WebForm_PostBackOptions_Error.html

The response from Microsoft was:
Thanks for your posting!

After my research, I think this is caused by known issue for ASP.NET v2.0.
Below is work around:
- Always include the WebForms.js file. This is a big rendering change.
- Modify all of our controls that may need it so that they ask for the
WebForms.js file to be rendered during PreRender. This solves the problem
for our controls (with a smaller rendering change), does not include the
file when unnecessary (most of the time, some cases can't be predicted that
early) but third party controls would need to do the same.

If the problem still occurs, I suggest you send a simple project as zip
format to me. It'll help me to repro and do some feather research. Thanks
for your understanding! My alias is v-yren [at] online.microsoft.com (remove
online).

Here's a workaround:

DNN 4.0.2

I can not add pages (WebForm_PostBackOptions Not found), remove hrefExchanger config entries and problem goes away.   I am not using any compression which also seems to cause problems according to my google results.  It seems to me that while hrefexchanger is causing the symptom it is not THE problem, after doing a google it is obvious that the new WebResource.axd mechanism is causing many problems and needs to be fixed by Microsoft.  But in the meantime I am hoping for a work around that works, I tried the suggestion above with no luck.

Hi Cecil,

Did you remember to do a CTRL-F5 on the page settings page to re-read the webresource.axd file? If you didn't, the "blank" one will get served up again from your browser's cache.

I have noticed that with hrefExchanger enabled, the webresource.axd file is always blank for me. Once I disable hrefExchanger, the real webresource.axd shows up. Has anyone else seen that behavior?

I seem to be having the same problem here:

Also get the webform_PostBackOptions.... errors

- User doesnt matter.
- No HTTP compression.
- Tried the webresource.axd workaround, but i keep getting the blank axd file.
- Once I disable the hrefExchanger entries in web.config it works again.

Has anyone found a decent solution to this problem yet?

Up till now I was using the hrefExchanger on a try before you buy basis, and was planning to buy it.. now i don't know for sure..

Joost: Make sure you press CTRL-F5 on the actual page where you are getting the error (after applying the workaround) & please let me know how you go.

Anthony,

Ive tried refreshing the page, clearing the cache, through the IE interface, as wel as manually, but it doesnt help, Ctrl-F5 doesnt help either.

Thanks Joost,

We're still working on figuring out exactly what is the source the problem.

Anthony,

Is there any update on this subject yet?

On the same front, I have just installed another server, this time win2k3 instead of 2000. But still the same problem occurs!

Hi all,

Thanks to you all for persevering - I have *finally* managed to reproduce the issue & find  a solution to the problem.  I've posted a new release, version 3.1.1 at http://www.inventua.com/dnn-hrefexchanger.content

Hey anthony!

Thanks for the support and for the effort in creating a new version.

We're gonna test it right away, and of course buy the module if it works as supposed to
